New Icelandic publishing house Ýtar launches crowdfunding campaign
Kristín Guðmundsdóttir is launching Ýtar bókaforlag to publish books for Icelandic learners. Find out how to pre-order her new Level 3 book.
Kristín Guðmundsdóttir, an author who writes for people learning Icelandic, is launching a new publishing house named Ýtar bókaforlag. The word ýtar comes from old Icelandic poetry and means "people".
Ýtar plans to publish novels for the general market as well as books for learners of Icelandic of all ages and language levels.

New books and the Karolina Fund campaign
To fund the start of the publishing house and its first titles, Kristín has launched a campaign on Karolina Fund. Karolina Fund is an Icelandic crowdfunding platform that supports cultural, artistic, and community projects in Iceland.
The campaign covers two upcoming books:
- Hvað leynist í kistlinum, an easy reader book designed for Level 3 Icelandic learners. This is Kristín's eighth book written for people of foreign origin.
- Frá norðri til nýrra heima, a novel for the general market about an adventurous trip across five continents.
Kristín will publish Hvað leynist í kistlinum for Level 3 learners regardless of the campaign outcome. If the publishing house opens as planned, both books will be released next year.
How to pre-order and support
The fundraising campaign finishes on 3 December. You can pre-order the Level 3 book or support the launch of the publishing house.
Here is how to get involved:
- Visit the Ýtar Publishing House campaign on Karolina Fund.
- Select a reward tier to pre-order the book or support the project.
- Share the project link with friends, family, or anyone interested in Icelandic books and language learning.
NOTE: Kristin is a great volunteer of Vegalingo, and we believe her books can contribute to efficient Icelandic language learning. This is never an enforcement on our 400+ users, but we think it would help in their learning.
